Edith’s Home supported children visit Entebbe Zoo
Recently, a group of Edith’s Home sponsored orphans and child-headed family children enjoyed a day out at the Entebbe Zoo. Although a day out at the zoo would be a perfectly normal weekend activity in the UK, for these children is was the furthest they’d ever travelled from their community – for some the 8-hour journey to Entebbe might be the furthest they will ever travel in their lives.

It was a fantastic educational opportunity for the children. It was their first opportunity to see elephants, giraffes, and lions – although one might associate the continent of Africa with wild animals, the reality is that such animals are still very rare and most Ugandans would never see such animals in the wild.

It was a joy for Edith’s Home to be able to provide these children with this trip. We hope it has opened up the children to the wider world a little bit, broadening their horizons. We hope this part of their development in working towards a future that is more hopeful, and breaks the cycle of poverty in their families and communities. We look forward to planning similar experiences in the future.
