THANK YOU!!! We managed to raise £730 for Edith's Home at our Big Band Swing Night!
The fundraising night was a great success, thanks to those of you who came, the dancing was incredible! Special thanks to the Hi-Life Big Band, Premier Inns, and Phil Munson the photographer. We'll let you know when the next one is...!
The Edith's Home Project was founded in response to a need we identified whilst working in the community of Ngora, a small town in the Teso region of Uganda.
Since 2004 we have worked to develop the project and at present we are supporting over 100 orphans within their extended family context where, often because of very limited resources, they are put to the "bottom of the pile" in an already strained family situation. We provide psychological and spiritual support, sponsorship of school fees, vocational training for orphans. More recently we have set up micro enterprise initiatives to help sustain the Edith's Home Project: food storage, farming, business loan schemes and office services.
Edith is an elderly lady whose heart for orphaned children inspired us during our time there. Although Edith has no children of her own, her time and resources are poured into children from her extended family who have been orphaned for a variety of reasons: AIDS, poverty and war. In 2006 Edith's Home became a part of the City Life Church Charity (UK registered charity number 1100602). All Edith's Home accounts are audited along with the church accounts, and all donations to the project are kept separate.
The project employes 10 local people to help deliver training programs, one to one support, admin and financial management, farming, teaching and security. UK teams provide a regular connection between the project and the support base we are building. This includes personal feedback form the orphans to their sponsors, being involved in a formal AGM, evaluating the progress of the project and ensuring the funds are distributed appropriately.
Our vision is to build a sustainable, empowered, ambitious generation who know and love God and who are equipped with integrity and vision for the future.
